5 Breath-taking Hikes to Put on Your Bucket List
Hiking is not only a powerful cardio workout but also a chance to reconnect with nature and decompress. Europe is home to some spectacular hiking trails. Forget hiking in Africa or the USA, Europe is perfect for beautiful, well guided hiking routes with amazing views. Here are five routes you should check out for a great hike in Europe.
West Highland Way – Scotland
The Scottish Highlands are the perfect place in the UK for outdoor activities and have some great hiking trails for avid walkers. The West Highland Way follows ancient trails and rocky paths spanning 96 miles ending at the tallest mountain in the UK, Ben Nevis. During your hike, take in Loch Lomond, the swamps of Rannoch Moor, and also the Devil’s Staircase.
Hot Spring route – Iceland
As expected, you will find your way through hot springs on this trail but that’s not all. Volcanoes, glaciers, mountains and meadows await you on this beautiful trail through this pristine country. The 34-mile trail is appealing to visitors compared to other longer routes, which means it is quite well travelled. However, when you are soaking in the scenery, you won’t notice the other hikers on the path with you.
Tour de Mont Blanc – France Italy and Switzerland
A trail spanning three countries with views of the tallest mountain in the European Union. You can understand why this is a popular feat. The circular route starts and finishes in Chamonix France and is 105 miles in length. Accommodation is readily available along the route in typical traditional alpine style. An excellent hike with breath-taking scenery, and a real place of Alpine beauty.
Slovenian Mountain Trail – Slovenia
Start the trail in the Alpine town of Maribor and cover 310 miles before reaching the end in the coastal village of Ankaran. You will discover such varied landscapes as you travel down the country, from mountainous peaks to Mediterranean vineyards. The route itself is very well maintained and to make your hike even more fun there’s a passport book to collect stamps at all 80 of the checkpoints on the way.
Kungsleden – Sweden
A massive 270 miles of trails through glaciers, tundra, birch forests and Sweden’s highest peak, Mount Kebnekaise. Summer is the best time for Hikers to scale the route, and tourists are permitted to camp anywhere along the trail. There are also campsites and huts to stay in too. If you don’t want to tackle the challenge in one big chunk, the route can be split up into four one-week segments. So if you only have a couple of weeks holiday per year, you can still complete the full trail without having to do it all in one go.
