Recipients: 2006 Creative Community 01

For the first ever Creative Community competition there were plenty of categories and some larger prizes. We selected from hundreds of entrants in six categories; photography, illustrative/commercial, multi-media, decorative crafts, writing and traditional mediums. From those categories we selected one to take 'Overall Creative Exellence". Below are the sites that we believe displayed the strongest portfolios in their respective categories and to the right are the honorable mentions. Take a moment to view their work and we think you'll agree.

Overall Creative Excellence

Laura Holloway

Laura's photographic work shows a maturity perhaps beyond her experience. She would seem to intuitively understand the principles of photography in that each photo is powerfully presented in composition, intention and execution. Her body of work is a nice balance of studio projects, landscapes, journalism and portraiture. In addition, Laura shows a expertise of the digital darkroom in her ability to manipulate an image to subtly enhance her subjects. However, beyond her technical abilities is a personal approach that we felt raises her work beyond a basic mastery of the medium. We are proud to award our top honors to Laura for her overall excellence and commitment to her art form.

Sasha Panyuta

Sasha is an exceptionally talented artist with a bold approach to contemporary realism. Sasha's body of work consists of primarily intimate figurative paintings that suggest scenes of relationships, desire and unfulfilled youthful lust executed with energetic brush strokes and stark realism.

Shawn Pedralba

Shawn Pedralba is an emerging talent capable of delivering a wide range of digital illustrations that range from cartoon to fantasy/sci-fi. The portfolio shows an understanding of the tools; including line drawing, digital manipulation and 3D rendering.

Photography

Celeste Nelms

Celeste's site is a presentation of her appreciation (reverence) with found objects. She photographs herself interacting with discarded objects found in free piles, yard sales and thrift stores. The resulting sepia-toned images are both humorous and surreal.

Multi-Media

Tantra Bensko

A very prolific artist; Tantra's work ranges from "straight Photography to mixed media using paint, scanning, photography, and digital manipulation, to sculpture mixed with painting, to movies, to woodcuts." But no matter the medium, the work is about nature, religion and flesh - with a good dose of the bizarre.

Decorative Crafts

Sarah Wilisch

Sarah's Hand-built Ceramics are influenced by ancient myths of metamorphosis and escapism. Each ceramic sculpture is enhanced with a subtle touch of acrylic color that helps accentuate the distinct feminine voice found in her entire body of work.

Writing

Seanie Blue

Mr. Blue has a urge to escape to nature, and is sharing his experiences through his website via blog posts, photography and short essays on the desire to travel and experience nature.

About this competition.

MosaicGlobe believes that the arts are a vital part of our lives and these Competitions were established to encourage the members of our online community and to acknowledge their talent.
