Photography
(Includes all categories of photography including traditional, digital and manipulated )
Malgorzata Jasinska
Visit the site
Malgorzata is without question, deft in her ability to manipulate source imagery at her whim. She has conjured up a world in which childhood imaginations are made bleak and sorrowful; yet hauntingly beautiful. Employing an inventive menagerie of macabre casts and settings, this work may seem introspective but has deeper ambitions and allegorical inclinations. Further kudos for obscure referencing of the 1966 song "They're Coming to Take Me Away Ha-Haaa!" by Napoleon XIV.
Honorable Mentions:
Dominique Chaponot
John Adams
Sayaka Taninokuchi

Traditional Mediums
(Painting, drawing, collage, print-making, mixed media, sculpture, etc.)
Jerry Vigil
Visit the site
Jerry is well known for his modern interpretation (and uniquely blue) calavera (skeleton). The work references the long held Mexican tradition of honoring the dead on the Dia de los Muertos November holiday. The calavera's produced by the artist are contemporary versions of those popularized in Mexico, in which contemporary figures are depicted as skeletons; suggesting that our death is imminent regardless of our station. From baseball players to astronauts, Jerry's Muertolitos are a lighthearted approach to mortality.

It is an undeniable fact that the visual characteristics of Manga/Anime has permeated nearly every creative field. Iris has channeled the style into her own creative wonderland of imagery and fashion. The site epitomizes the community and personality of the artform while also expressing her own unique visual voice with Alice inspired ink and color. P.S. The site earned major bonus points for the comprehensive custom theme!

Joe Scarpa
Visit the site
Whimsical is the adjective that may best describe the work of John Scarpa. Although multifaceted would also suffice. His portfolio includes an excessive tiki inspired lava lamp and a pirate ship in a tree (probably the sweetest treehouse we have ever seen). The gallery also includes a fish table, some amazing custom gates, a rocket ship/trailer and a number of pet sculptures. Speaking of pets; the blog takes us through a creative journey in which a public sculpture is assembled, transported and installed. The peice: a giant set of three vibrant dog collars.
