Some of the Best Ways to Explore the Big Apple

Some of the Best Ways to Explore the Big Apple

New York, the Big Apple, is one of the most exciting places to visit as a tourist. It is truly the city that never sleeps. Visitors have more than enough to see and many ways in which to see the attractions. The adventurous tourist can be an intrepid solo traveller and make up their own itinerary. A better way is to use an online ticketing service to buy a tour ticket providing entry to many attractions. Keep in mind that while visiting New York City, you should consider Broadway show tickets as well online. It is certainly the best way to buy show tickets for the many on and off-Broadway hit shows.

Here are five ticketing options:

1. New York City Explorer Pass

The Explorer Pass is readily available online. The visitor can choose between 3 and 10 attractions they wish to see from a list of 49. The all-inclusive cost represents up to 50% discount on the gate price.

The site also offers Attraction packages, which are focussed fixed lists of attractions, for example a Museum Pass or City View Pass. Again these offer discounts on individual gate prices.

2. One World Observatory

The One World Observatory is right on the top of the new One World Trade Centre Building. As the tallest building in NYC, it offers stunning views of the entire city. The online website provides the opportunity to buy tickets. Linking it with the 9/11 Memorial Museum will allow the visitor to experience 9/11 before and after the attacks and the marvellous restoration work carried out since.

3. New York Pass

The Online New York Pass provides a range of ticketing options, including uptown and Downtown Tours. Flights are books and hostels are confirmed so easily. You can find the online rates to travel anywhere with or without the pass. It is very similar to the Explorer Pass in providing discounted entry to over 90 attractions.

4. Best of NYC – Circle Line Sightseeing

Circle Line Sightseeing offers a range of cruises covering all the major landmarks visible from the water, including the Statue of Liberty. See New York as immigrants saw it on the way to Ellis Island. Again bookings can be made online.

5. The 9/11 Memorial Museum

The 9/11 memorial museum was built in the memory of 2997 people that died in that saddest incident. It is to be found at the heart of the original World Trade Centre site. It has two main parts, the external Plaza and the Museum itself. Both have online facilities for booking tickets.

The hints provide a range of options to choose how to explore New York City. Using online booking and the various passes on offer can be a most cost-effective (and time-saving) way of maximising the enjoyment of your visit. Be sure also not to miss the opportunity to see at least one of the current top billing shows running in the City, on or off Broadway. Show Tickets are can be booked online, but obviously are very dependent on availability.

Finally, why “The Big Apple”?

The nickname was largely popularised by a sportswriter John J. Fitzgerald in the 1920s and is believed to derive from horse racing, where the prizes were often referred to as apples. The biggest racing prize was in NYC, hence “The Big Apple”. It became popular after 1970 when New York Conventions and Visitors Bureau began promoting this name.
