Feature Requests > how about getting more ecommerce friendly?

I really would like to use this as my primary site but cannot since I need to sell work to pay for things. Are you progressing at all on adding Paypal shopping carts or similar?

Jane, Although we intend to have an embedded shopping system at some point; integrating e-commerce into MosaicGlobe is a very large undertaking. As a result of our recent member survey; our current focus is on social networking and event calendar features (and squashing unexpected bugs). We are a pretty small shop with smaller resources so after we tackle these features we will re-examine our priorities and hopefully shopping will be a part of that. Thanks for your patience on this issue. - Danny

In that case, this may be the wrong place for me thugh I like the look. I am not one of those looking to play sociable on the web. (and do not recall getting the survey, though that may be because I have been scraping trying to make ends meet) Once I am expected to pay for the site I will be leaving unless there is a better way for it to carry itself financially.

I don't know how it works, but you could look into a PayPal system?

It is possible to use PayPal on your site. It involves some HTML editing however.
See CHAC gallery page for an example: http://chac.mosaicglobe.com/page/1591.
This will work if you want to sell a handful of items and you are comfortable working in HTML. But coding your entire inventory can be a pain. You will need to create a buy now button for eachh item through your PayPal account and then use the un-encrypted text link (for emails) as the ahref for your embedded text link or buy button.

I am not an html wizard, what is an ahref? I can create a buy now button, but am lost after that.

I tried following your instructions and putting the html for the email unencrypted there, but there was no button, only a long string of HTML.

Hi Jane, Like I said. This process is really for HTML coders. An href refers to the HTML code that creates links. It would need to surround the source code for your 'buy now' button image. You would need to create your own button or download the button from PayPal. The code would look something like:

<a href="link for paypal"><img src="link_to_my_image"></a>

If your interested in learning HTML there are some excellent resources on the web such as: http://www.w3schools.com/html

Then I take it that this site will remain for the geeks to integrate ecommerce, and those of us who merely want to sell our work online can go elsewhere?

1. If I had time to learn html, I would be using my own server, not your site. I just tried, via cut and paste, using what you suggested above, and it did not work. So, as soon as billing kicks in, I'll be out of here. (How much notice do I need to give?) Too bad, as I like the look better than number1artist, but they are MUCH easier for those of us who are interested in SELLING to use.
