It's pretty easy to alter the background of your site-- provided you have a good working knowledge of Photoshop (or a similar image-editing program) and a basic understanding of CSS.
I'm a graphics guy, and not a developer, so I don't have any crazy HTML expertise, and I found it was pretty painless to switch things up. All you really need is some careful measuring and a bit of patience.
I'm about to run out the door right now, but if you like, I can put together an instruction sheet to walk you through how I changed the background images, heading, text, etc.
