Travel Smart: Ensure you are Up-to-date on All Your Vaccines
When planning trips, a lot of people tend to focus on the activities they will engage in, the places they will visit and generally how much fun they intend to have. Most people tend to forget about their vaccinations when they are planning to travel. It is very important to be up to date with your vaccines when planning a trip whether local or international. This is because it protects you from getting infected with any illness that may be present in the area you intend to visit. Getting your vaccines enables you to remain healthy throughout your trip which is important since sickness prevents you from enjoying your time. There are 4 considerations you should keep in mind before you take your next vaccine.
1. Where you are traveling
The travel destination is very important when you decide to take a vaccination. This is because it gives you an idea of which vaccinations you should get. For instance, if the place you intend to visit has been having an outbreak of Hepatitis A, this is one vaccine you need to get in order to protect yourself from getting the disease. Doing some research on about your travel destination gives you an idea of some of the illnesses that are in the area. However, you can also ask your doctor to tell you some of the vaccines you need for the trip.(Image by Ghana Trip)
2. Your activities while traveling
The activities you plan on engaging in on the trip are also a great way to determine the vaccines you require. For instance, if you will be on the water most of the time, it is advisable to get some flu shots. This enables you to participate in the activities without having to worry about getting sick.
3. Your current health status – are you allergic or have any illnesses
Another thing that can help when you decide to take vaccinations is your current health status before the trip. If you have allergies, it is important to get your allergy shots before the trip and any other vaccines you may need depending on your health status. This is very important because it enables you to maintain your good health in a different and new environment.
4. Vaccination History
Your vaccination history is very important. This is because it enables you to know which vaccinations you have had already and which ones you have not. It is important to ensure you do not get a vaccination you have already gotten before. If you are not completely sure about this, it may help to visit your doctor in order to avoid any mistakes.(Image by caroline_1)
There is a common misconception that a lot of people have about not needing to get vaccinations when planning a cruise trip. But guess what?? They are dead wrong! Even with cruises, especially when traveling to tropical and exotic destinations, you get to stop over at different locations where the environment and weather is different and you can therefore easily contract a disease. It is therefore important to ensure you get the vaccination even when you plan to go on a cruise. You may want to take a look at this Cruise Vaccination Guide to get a better idea. But regardless where you go, keeping yourself healthy and well is a priority and you will have to use your judgment in many cases when arriving to a new destination. Safe travel!
